No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted. ~Aesop
In 1991, G. Richard Wheelock, retired MD, Deacon Albert Graff, and Msgr Lawrence Purcell, pastor of St. James and St. Leo Mission Churches collaborated to make available a simple structure attached to St. Leo Church for the purpose of providing care to the poor who had no access to medical treatment. The facility was quickly overwhelmed and needed expansion twice. In addition, a dental clinic was added. All of this was under the financial and construction sponsorship of the Del Mar Rotary, of which Dr. Wheelock, Deacon Graff, and Dr. Bobbitt, DDS were active members.
Population: Co-existing in the north county cities of San Diego are professional medical, dental, and administrative personnel as well as the working poor without health insurance. A special place is Eden Gardens, an enclave of Solana Beach, where many of these people live and the offices are located.
The Medical Program is led by a primary care physician and nurse practitioner. Several specialists also see patients on site and as needed in their private offices. The program has needed medication, supplies, and laboratory services on site. These are obtained through discounted group buying programs and careful purchases through pharmacies.
All of the services are provided by our multilingual staff and translators, ready to serve our diverse community.
