A Note from the Pastor – April 2

At dawn, at first light, almost clandestinely, two women go to the tomb in the garden. They are the same women who on Friday stood, without retreating an inch, around the perimeter of the cross.

An angel descended from heaven, rolled away the stone, and sat on it. He did not open the tomb for Jesus to come out; Jesus had already risen. The angel revealed the empty tomb to the women, reminding them that death has lost its power.

Astonished, the women listened as the angel said, “I know you are looking for Jesus, but he is not here! You seekers! Continue your journey with new eyes, for he is not among the dead. How beautiful this is: he is not here!”

Christ is alive, away from tombs; he is out on the streets, a God to be grasped in life. Everywhere, but not here, among dead things.

We must upgrade our sight so that we can see with the heart: no place contains him. He is beyond; He is not here; He precedes you; he is ahead, leading our vast migration toward life. God loves open spaces and open hearts; then tombs shall be opened.

Easter is the result of Passover. It is not a celebration for the sedentary, but for spiritual migrants like Abraham, or the Virgin Mary; for those who listen to God and invent paths that lead over hills towards rejoicing with more justice, more peace, more harmony with creation, towards a new earth and new heavens.
