St. James Mission Circle is happy to announce the construction of our next sleeping cottage in July 2022. Our planned construction Saturdays are July 16th and 23rd. Once again we’ll be partnering with Casas de Luz for construction expertise.
Similar to the one built in Vista, this cottage will be on the grounds of the Church of the Brethren, a few miles east of Balboa Park. The objective of this housing is to provide shelter for clients of refugee agencies. We are asking once again for volunteers to help with construction, painting, and decorating–no matter the skill level. To signup:
- After Mass in late June, or
- Warren Henderson (warrenhcl@hotmail.com) or Dale Burchby (dale.burchby@gmail.com)
- Food team: Debbie Derderian, at dderderian6118@gmail.com.
- For donations of furnishings or funds, contact: deaconpeter@stjames-stleo.com
The Cottage Project will help individuals integrate into U.S. life with a chance to develop self-reliance, stability, a place to call home that isn’t a tent, and a chance to start life here. These cottages provide an interim step toward permanent housing, with wrap-around social services to support their journey.
