Biography:
Deacon Peter was born in Chicago and grew up in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. He came to California to attend college at Santa Clara University in the Bay Area, graduating with degrees in Math and Sociology. It was at Santa Clara that he met his soul mate, Katie, and they married three months after graduation in 1976. Moving to Seattle, Peter continued his education at the University of Washington, attaining a Master’s Degree in Sociology.
After a move to Boston in the early 80’s, Peter realized that the high tech world was a good fit for his talents, and continued to pursue various jobs in this area, culminating in a move to San Diego in the mid-80’s. It was then that Peter and Katie found St. James (or the other way around?). They both became active in RCIA in the early 90’s until Peter was invited to consider diaconate in 2001. Five years later, he was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego. When not preaching and teaching at the parish, Deacon Peter acts as a volunteer chaplain at RJ Donovan State Prison, teaches at the San Diego Diocesan Institute, and frequently leads retreats and gives talks on the spiritual journey. Peter has worked for companies such as FileNet, IBM, and Modern Analytics. Peter and Katie have one son, Joe, who is married to Christine. To their delight, granddaughter Elisha was born into the family last September and lights up their lives.
