The Gospel tells the story of the Holy Family guided by a dream. The key figure was not Herod the Great or his son Archelaus, but Joseph—a quiet and courageous man. He dreamed, gathered his family, and set out on a journey.
Impactful actions: dream, discern, go, and protect. Four decisive verbs for every family and every individual; moreover, for the fate of the world.
Everything stems from a dream. Joseph is so humble and deeply tuned with God that when he has a dream, he discerns, and his discernment confirms it’s God’s voice, no images, but piercing words of patience, love, and mission.
“Rise, take the child and his mother.” These powerful words from God remind us that when we open our arms and hearts to the holy family, our true mission unfolds. Everything begins at the heart of our families and God’s family, rooted in love and holiness, with Jesus as our guiding apex.
Joseph doesn’t have the whole horizon clear before him, but only as much light as is needed for the first step, as much courage as is necessary for the first night, and as much strength as is needed to protect.
Every Christian hits a crossroads when listening to God, which compels us to a transformative mission. You provide your very self, and God will do the rest.
Lord, give me Joseph’s discernment; many voices compete for my heart’s attention, but only your voice is needed; speak, your servant is now listening.
