The purpose of St. James Youth Ministry (SJYM): to be missionaries for the hearts of young people. We are led, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to create life-giving, joy-filled, merciful encounters with the person of Jesus Christ. Through this communion with Jesus, we draw close to each other, the St. James parish family and the communities we have been chosen and called to witness to a hope that lasts. We rely on the inspiration and the teachings of the Catholic Church so that a young person can make a confident decision to be a life-long disciple.
Connect with Us
There are a few ways to get connected:
The youth ministry website is still under development. In the meantime, everything you’ll need to know will be on this page of the parish website. So, come back here often for updates.
We invite you to sign up for our email AND text messaging service to receive up-to-the-minutes updates on what’s going on. And we highly, strongly, really really REALLY want for teens and parents to sign up as separate members on our service so we can send specific, targeted messages. Signing up is easy and just takes a minute.
Sacrament of Confirmation
In the Diocese of San Diego, one must be at least fifteen (15) years old at the time of the Confirmation Mass (typically celebrated during the the Easter Season, the 50 days between Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday) AND already baptized into the Catholic Church to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. At St. James-St. Leo, all candidates must complete four family meetings in order to fulfill the requirements of Confirmation prep.
To schedule the first of the four family meetings, teens/parents should contact Gail Jilka at 858.755.2545 x100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The first family meeting must be completed by Oct. 15 in order to prepare for Confirmation this year.
